But don't romanticize this. A model company buying a chip-optimization company is basically saying, "my compute isn't enough, I have to go fix the supply chain myself." Two lessons: frontier models are burning so much cash that giants must touch the hardware supply chain; and in the AI arms race, the software-hardware line is blurring.
