The real play is lock-in: engineers spend 45 days building your AI stack on AWS, and when they leave, your data, pipelines, and inference engines are all rooted in AWS infrastructure, making migration costs prohibitive. Palantir did this because its software was too complex for customers to implement alone. AWS is doing it because it realized that just selling APIs isn't enough — enterprises bought Bedrock credits but didn't know how to use them, and renewal rates suffered. So rather than "technical enablement," this is Amazon discovering that the best cloud sales strategy is to write the customer's code for them — because once it's written, there's no mystery about whose servers it'll run on.
