Alibaba ships Qwen3 Coder Next — China's open-source coding models take another step. While the US is busy with export controls, locking its strongest models inside its borders, open source has instead become China's home turf: you wall yours off, I open mine up. Which one the world's developers end up using won't be decided by who shouts loudest — it'll be decided by who's free, usable, and fits into your workflow. Giving the model away is, paradoxically, how you pull the ecosystem in. The open-sourcers have done that math very clearly.
