Google Replaces the Gemini CLI with the Antigravity CLI
Google confirmed that as of June 18, the Antigravity CLI replaces the older Gemini CLI. The new command line shipped at Google I/O 2026 and is built for the Gemini 3.5 agentic model family.
Three key facts
From chat to agents. The new CLI centers on letting the model autonomously run multi-step tasks in the terminal, not just answer questions — continuing the industry-wide shift from chat to agent.

Google renames its command line from Gemini CLI to Antigravity CLI, leaning on "agentic." Renaming is easy; changing fate is hard — developers care whether it's good, fast, and gets work done, not whether the name sounds sci-fi enough. "Antigravity" is a big name to live up to; the question is whether it can actually lift developers out of repetitive grunt work. If it can't, it's just a flashier label on the same job.
