Apple WWDC 2026: Siri AI Rebuilt, Betting on Screen Awareness and Personal Context

At its WWDC 2026 keynote in Cupertino, Apple unveiled an all-new Siri AI — officially "an entirely new version of Siri" — as the centerpiece of Apple Intelligence. It marks the formal return of the big Siri overhaul Apple delayed back in 2024.

Three key facts

Siri AI is more than a smarter voice assistant. It can perceive what's on your screen, understand your personal context (cross-app links across mail, messages, and calendar), and lives as a standalone app. Developers can test it today; public beta opens next month; the full release lands this fall, English first.

Version numbers snap back into lockstep: the whole lineup jumps to 27 — iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 — shipping this fall alongside iPhone 18 Pro.

New Apple Intelligence features include Image Playground, Spatial Reframing in Photos (recompose after the shot), Safari's Notify Me page-change watcher, upgraded Messages suggestions, and better search across Spotlight, Photos, and Mail.

Apple SVP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi set the tone: Apple is delivering the next generation of Apple Intelligence across its platforms, with Siri AI being a "profoundly more intelligent, knowledgeable, and capable" Siri.

Apple has spent years promising "this time Siri really gets smart," and every year Siri still makes you want to hurl your iPhone. This year they rename it "Siri AI" and bolt on "personal context" — plain English: can't out-muscle the frontier models, so it comes home to rummage through your drawers. They wouldn't even name whose LLM is under the hood, which means they won't vouch for it either.
